Inner Urgency | Rachmaninov × Radiohead
This project brings together music by Radiohead and Sergei Rachmaninov in a single piano program, exploring unexpected resonances between two composers separated by a century but united by a shared sense of urgency and emotional intensity.
Rather than focusing on stylistic contrast, the program highlights common ground: harmonic density, instability between major and minor, obsessive rhythmic drive, and music that feels psychologically charged rather than decorative. Both Radiohead and Rachmaninov use harmony and repetition to create tension, vulnerability, and a feeling of inner pressure that unfolds over time.
By placing these works side by side—and at times in direct dialogue—the project invites the listener to hear Rachmaninov through a contemporary lens and Radiohead as part of a longer expressive lineage. The result is a program that feels both intimate and visceral, questioning where “classical” ends and contemporary expression begins.
