Helena Basilova

Helena Basilova is an acclaimed Dutch pianist celebrated for bridging classical depth with cutting-edge contemporary music and innovative digital art. Praised by The New York Times for playing “sensitively and with flair”, she is internationally recognized for her dedication to living composers and immersive multimedia collaborations.

Driven by a lifelong curiosity for new sounds, she frequently pushes the boundaries of the traditional recital format, collaborating with contemporary jazz musicians, electronic sound designers, and visual artists. Her forward-thinking multimedia projects include immersive live events developed in collaboration with leading media artists such as Salvador Breed, Nick Verstand, Vincent Rang, and Boris Acket.

Her diverse and critically acclaimed discography reflects this commitment to contemporary and experimental soundscapes. Key releases include her minimalist exploration of Morton Feldman’s Triadic Memories, her poignant Homage to Ryuichi Sakamoto (recorded at Nils Frahm’s studio), and her latest conceptual album, Aelita, Queen of Mars, featuring her own electronic-acoustic compositions performed as a live score.

Helena has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall, New York City), Hyogo Performing Arts Center (Japan), the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, De Singel Antwerp, the NCPA in Mumbai, and the Banff Centre (Canada). She has also appeared at festivals including Rewire, Fiber, The Rest is Noise, Pieces of Tomorrow, 8 Brücken Cologne, and Amsterdam Dance Event.

Plans for 2027 include the creation of a new piano work with Salvador Breed, titled HAMMERSCORE, and a new solo program featuring Radiohead works alongside Rachmaninov. Helena is also dedicating her time to researching new ways of encouraging children to compose their own music through composition and creative music workshops.

Alongside her performing career, Helena serves as Piano Professor at the ArtEZ Conservatory in the Netherlands.
